9 Jan

You know at Eye Candy Buy Candy we are kind of obsessed with designer deals. I found this cute little tutorial about one of our fave sites: Gilt Groupe.

Gilt Groupe provides access by invitation only, to Men’s, Women’s and Children’s coveted fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Each sale last 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer.

is 2010 the Year of the Manther?

8 Jan
Manther (noun): the male version of a cougar; an older man who preys on younger women.
Judging by the Spring shows, the school girl look is all the rage. Does this mean I have to dig up my old Catholic School Girl uniform?

H&M Destroys New Clothes

7 Jan

a clothing market in Ghana, West Africa badly in need of H&M’s low-cost trendy items!
I saw H&M as a trending topic on twitter (follow me @ShopECBC) and thought I’d see what the commotion was about. A new designer? Some fab deals? FALSE! None of the above. Actually, it was an article in the New York Post about how H&M destroys and throws away all the unsold and perfectly good clothing that they can’t sell. Fhat the wuck, H&M?! As having lived in a developing African country, I know that there definitely is a huge market for those unsold clothes! Even though the used-clothing industry in developing countries may be significantly damaging to the local textile and garment industries in their respective countries, wouldn’t it make us as Americans feel better knowing that at least the poor women and children in these countries would be trendy (albeit a few seasons late)…or maybe not. Perhaps H&M is doing the world a favor by destroying their old duds because:
1. They are helping people to promote sustainable growth in the lesser developed countries so badly hurt by the Western used-clothing industry
2. No one wants to be an enabler
3. Who wants to see people walking around in fashion trends of years past? The return of the Von Dutch trucker hats?…ewww. I’ll pass.

Playing Dress Up

6 Jan

My New Year’s Resolution? To not be boring. Nice people finish last for a reason. This is the era of Gaga, after all. Who says playing dress up is limited to little girls and Halloween? Marc Jacobs had bunny ears hopping down Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2009 runway and the Olsens were spotted rocking animal ears in Tokyo. Thank you Topshop for bringing the runway to reality. *ring ring ring* Hey 2010, fashion is calling…will you answer?
