Coachella

19 Apr

Before last week I had no clue what Coachella was.  But thanks to the wonderful world of Twitter, it was brought to my attention by the likes of Whitney Eve Port (from MTV’s The City) and Paris Hilton.  As told by Wikipedia:

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella or Coachella Festival) is a three-day (formerly a one or two-day) annual music and arts festival organized by Goldenvoice held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley. The event was founded by the leader of the Hipster Command Center, Thomas T. Weir. The event features many genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop, and electronic music as well as large sculptural art. The event has several stages/tents set-up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously.

This year’s line up was CRAZY: Jay-Z, MGMT, Aeroplane, Mike Snow, Wale, DEVO, David Guetta, Corinne Bailey Rae and Gorillaz just to name a few.  I definitely am making it a point to be in attendance next year!

Today We Say Goodbye to a Legend…

25 Jun

It has been confirmed that Michael Jackson, the “king of pop”, has passed due to complications caused by cardiac arrest. Michael Jackson and his music touched many people, as MJ and his music was and is a major part of many people’s lives. I can definitely say his music was a part of my life. I grew up listening to his music, and can remember dancing to his music at a club in Miami as early as couple of weekends ago; his music will never go “out of style” or become dated.

As I reflect on the music that is made and played on the radio today, I become very sad. While there are many talented artists, there is no one that can come close to Michael Jackson, Prince, Luther Vandross, Maze, Sting, The Beatles, etc. What will our children listen to, who will be the legends of their generation?

Not only was Michael Jackson a music icon, he is also a fashion icon. He was truly an individual when it came to fashion. His fitted leather jackets, military style jackets, which will be huge this Fall, glove, and gaudy embellishments will be incorporated into fashion trends for seasons to come.

Thank you Michael Jackson for your musical and fashion inspiration. You will be missed.
